Have you always been interested in making films but
couldn't get started because you didn't have money, experience, equipment, a
crew, actors, money, props, location permits, make-up, money, or money? Us too!
Hi, we're a group of local yokels with varying degrees of degrees. We all have
one thing in common, we love to have FUN and we love to make MOVIES! We're
looking for some other people around town who, in the words of Bryan Mills,
have a very particular set of skills (we'll settle for enthusiasm in a
pinch).
Acting, writing, camera, sound and lighting tech, SPFX, production,
animation, story boarding, wardrobe, editing, set design, props - you name it,
we'll exploit it.
We have a MeetUp™ group with the same name (Amateur
Filmmakers of Alaska) and encourage you to join and come discuss the
possibility of collaborating on some awesome and sometimes terrible short films
that will earn you neither money nor the respect of your peers.
Please come and
join us as we trudge the happy road to creative silliness and sometimes seriousness.
At the Listening Post we believe listening with our full attention and compassion has powerful results.
There is a level of dignity we can offer as one human being to another: We can listen. Everyone's story is different. Some stories are difficult, some daring, some happy, some sad. But there is something we all have in common - Being Heard Matters.
Everyone deserves to be listened to. That is what The Listening Post is here to do - honor you, offer you respect, and hear your story.

Losing Alaska Directed by: Tom Burke
Losing Alaska is the story of the people of Newtok, some three hundred and seventy five Americans citizens whose homes are disappearing. As winter storms grow more fierce each year and steal more of the coastline, summer meltwaters surge down the Ninglick river and erode the edges of the town. Rising temperatures are melting the permafrost on which the town is built. Our film follows their efforts build a new town on safer ground before the inevitable flood washes their homes away.
Children of the Dig Directed by: Joshua Branstetter
In 2009, a 500-year-old artifact was discovered on the beach outside of Quinhagak, Alaska, opening the door to the most productive archaeological dig in Arctic history with 60,000 artifacts recovered so far. In 2009, the site was 50 feet from the ocean. Today it is ten.

Are you happy, worried, or confused about how President Trump’s proposals could change your
life or impact your children’s future?
Come to the Loussac Library, for a facilitated discussion on what you
are thinking and feeling.
This is a program of discussions on Doing Democracy facilitated by Let’s
Talk Alaska (LTAK). Listen to your
neighbors, shareyour concerns, and discuss
what you might do about them – individually and with others who care.
This is a new variation on a program in civic dialogue
created by Alaska Common Ground and the Anchorage Library called Let’s Talk
Alaska. Our prior discussions were on topics we selected guided by discussions
guides we authored. Now, you – the participants – will choose the topics you
wish to explore. The only requirement is that they address the program purpose
of Doing Democracy and can be
discussed in terms of the following questions:
1.What about
this topic makes me Happy? Worried?
Confused?
2.How does
this topic fit with the founding values of our nation as set forth in our
Constitution?
3.What can we do about this topic that upholds the
values we hold dear?

1.What about
this topic makes me Happy? Worried?
Confused?
2.How does
this topic fit with the founding values of our nation as set forth in our

3.What can we do about this topic that upholds the

Charmingly soft-spoken and yet
powerfully incisive expressing his profound ideals, Fred Rogers was a unique
presence on television for generations.
Through interviews of his family and
colleagues, the life of this would-be pastor is explored as a man who found a
more important calling to provide an oasis for children in a video sea of
violent bombardment. That proved to be his landmark series, Mister Rogers'
Neighborhood (1968), a show that could gently delve into important subjects no
other children's show would have dared for that time.
In doing so, Rogers experienced a
career where his sweet-tempered idealism charmed and influenced the world
whether it be scores of children on TV or recalcitrant authorities in
government. However, that beloved personality also hid Rogers' deep self-doubts
about himself and occasional misjudgments even as he proved a rock of
understanding in times of tragedy for a world that did not always comprehend a
man of such noble character.

Everyone deserves to be listened to. That is what The Listening Post is here to do - honor you, offer you respect, and hear your story.
The Listening Post is "a meditative place where personal stories are heard." Volunteers from The Listening Post will be available in a quiet, safe and non-judgmental space to listen to participants stories.

Please come and
join us as we trudge the happy road to creative silliness and sometimes seriousness.

life or impact your children’s future?

are thinking and feeling.
