Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is a dark fantasy novel set in a fictional world. In this world, there are Grisha. Grisha are from the country of Ravka, and their powers can range from healing and dealing damage to the body to manipulating elements.
The story follows Nina, Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Wylan, and Matthias on their journey to break into the Ice Court, the most impenetrable fort in the world and Matthias’s homeland, to rescue Bo Yul-Bayur.
Bo Yul-Bayur is a scientist who invented the addictive drug jurda parem. Jurda parem has the power to heighten the senses of the Grisha and make them unstable. Will the street-theives-turned-jail-breakers succeed before this information is in the wrong hands?
I really liked this book because of how immersive the world was. I will admit that there are several sub-plots and background stories woven into their journey, which could make it a difficult story to follow, but for me, this made it more interesting. They each have so many different facets to their goals and ambitions, and I enjoyed seeing them change throughout the story.

The book Tomb Quest: Book of the Dead practically emits adventure. An adventure containing plenty of mummies, cultists and magic. The author Michael Northrop certainly knows what he's doing when it comes to making a story. Our story opens with a lot of plot heavy dialogue from the cultists. Then switches to the. Main character, Alex Sennefer. We find out that Alex has an unknown medical condition and he has to take special pills every day. We also meet his smart friend Ren Duran .Later, his mom disappears with some important artifacts. Alex and his friend Ren and an old professor. I recently read the book “Housemaid” by Freida Mcfadden. I’d been craving for something to put me on the edge of my seat, since my love for thrillers only grows every day. This book tells the story of a woman who takes a job as a maid in a rich family’s home, but finds out something twisted is going on. The beginning was slow, and it took a lot for me to trudge through the boring details. But that’s what eventually hooked me. Those “boring” details led to something sinister as the plot thickens. Nina (the wife that lives there) has wild erratic behavior, and you can tell something is off about her. But her cruel actions towards the main character make sense at the end of the book, which made me realize how much I love twists. The story flips completely in the middle, and all the characters I trusted looked extremely different. The sense of danger feels very real when you’re reading the book, and has you hating and loving the characters at the same time. Anyways, great book!

This story is told from three characters perspectives on their journeys to find closure, love, and family. It takes place in Sowell Bay, Washington.

Marcellus the Octopus is a Giant Pacific Octopus who lives at the aquarium and forms an unlikely friendship with the cleaning lady, Tova. He knows his life will end soon, and his last wish is for Tova to have closure and find lost family.

Tova Sullivan cleans the aquarium to fill the loss caused by her 18 year old son Erik’s disappearance and her late husband. She thinks that she will grow old alone, with only the vacant cleaning position at the aquarium marking her passing. That is, until Cameron Cassmore shows up in town.

Cameron Cassmore lived with his aunt after his mother abandoned him when he was young. He is broke and unable to hold down a job, so he decides to track down his absent father and beg for 18 years of missed child support to put him back on his feet. What he learns about his father and the small town of Sowell Bay are enough to turn multiple lives around, not just his own.

I didn’t think that I would like this book very much when I picked it up, but I ended up loving it. The way that Tova and Cameron’s stories start very far apart but grow more intertwined is super interesting. I especially loved how Marcellus’s narratives were told from his perspective, which added a ton of foreshadowing and truly showed how smart octopuses really are.

Now, Nina will have to face the secrets she's long kept if she has any hope of helping the people suddenly under her care. Where We Come From is a novel written by Oscar Cásares is a book that humanizes the struggles of the people who live on the U.S-Mexico Border. The book humanizes the illegal immigration issue and talks about the many sides of the story, like the coyotes, illegal immigrants, and the people living on the boarder. The book delves into right and wrong, and how it is not such a black and white issue. The author himself lived right by the border and has witnessed these issues. The book does go through a different character almost every chapter, so it can be a little difficult keeping track of which character one is reading. For people who are interested in how different policies and how these issues affect people’s lives, I would highly recommend this book.

The crucible : a play in four acts

Author: Arthur Miller ; with an introduction by Christopher Bigsby
Year: 2003
ISBN: 9780142437339

Abstract: "I believe that the reader will discover here the essential nature of one of the strangest and most awful chapters in human history, " Arthur Miller wrote in an introduction to The Crucible, his classic play about the witch-hunts and trials in seventeenth-century Salem, Massachusetts. Based on historical people and real events, Miller's drama is a searing portrait of a community engulfed by hysteria. In the rigid theocracy of Salem, rumors that women are practicing witchcraft galvanize the town's most basic fears and suspicions; and when a young girl accuses Elizabeth Proctor of being a witch, self-righteous church leaders and townspeople insist that Elizabeth be brought to trial. The ruthlessness of the prosecutors and the eagerness of neighbor to testify against neighbor brilliantly illuminate the destructive power of socially sanctioned violence. Written in 1953, The Crucible is a mirror Miller uses to reflect the anti-communist hysteria inspired by Senator Joseph McCarthy's witch-hunts in the United States. Within the text itself, Miller contemplates the parallels, writing: "Political opposition ... is given an inhumane overlay, which then justifies the abrogation of all normally applied customs of civilized behavior. A political policy is equated with moral right, and opposition to it meets with diabolical malevolence."

Reviewed by Elizabeth V. 11th Grade

The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a play that dramatizes the 1692 Salem witch trials. It follows a group of girls led by another, Abigail Williams, as they accuse others of witchcraft. Some of the girls themselves are based off of those involved within the real-life Salem witch trials. When you look deeper in the book after reading, you realize the ties it has to the anti-communist hysteria of the 1950s during the McCarthy era. I find the allegory profoundly interesting as it mixes these two pieces of history. Moreover, I find the way Miller writes the play itself fun and entertaining as it explores the themes of mass hysteria.

It follows a traveling salesman by the name of Gregor Samsa, who wakes up one day to find out that he's been converted to a giant insect. Throughout the book, it's easy to recognize how conditional the love his family had for him. Even his sister, who initially cared, eventually finds him to have became a burden. I find the way Kafka writes extremely interesting as well, and it made the read super enjoyable. Additionally, the way he explores the themes of dehumanization through an absurd situation such as this makes it such a great book.

Of mice and men

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck was such a beautiful, saddening read for me. It follows two friends by the name of George and Lennie as they try to follow their dream of owning land together. The book itself was written during the 1930s, the decade in which the Great Depression occurred. As such, it explores the loneliness and the inaccessibility of the American Dream that was experienced during that time. Additionally, I find it beautiful that two people as different as George and Lennie, found each other and kept each other company. This book was such an amazing read and I think it's a must-read for all.

Dracula by Bram Stoker is, in all honesty, the best book I've read in a while. The book is written in a form I haven't seen before. It's told through letters and diary entries, making it all the more interesting and personal. It follows the story of a vampire named Count Dracula as a group, lead by Professor Van Helsing, try to hunt him down. The book itself is famous for its depiction of vampires, as it became the blueprint for what we know vampires to be now. However, I think the source material itself is much more interesting than any current depictions. I think it's a must read for anyone interested in vampires and the like.

I first heard about this manga because of the anime that was released, and I'm honestly glad I read the manga. The art style was definitely not watered down in the anime, and also gave it a very clean, precise vibe. I also loved the humor in this manga and definitely caught myself laughing a few times! Although the storyline isn't really for me, I can admit I do like this manga overall and I will be giving the anime a watch!

My good side : a memoir

Author: Scheana Shay
Year: 2025
ISBN: 9781538773352

Abstract: "Before eleven seasons of record-breaking TV, two Emmy nominations, and a chart-topping podcast, Scheananigans, Scheana thought signing on to the Real Housewives' spin-off show, Vanderpump Rules, was a steppingstone to reaching her ultimate goal of becoming a successful actress in Hollywood. After appearing on shows like 90210, Jonas, and Victorious, Vanderpump Rules would be a piece of cake. But from the very first season, Scheana clashed with her fellow cast members. Barbs were thrown, friendships dissolved, and Scheana was left in the rubble trying to navigate the complexities of having her life and relationships filmed for a television audience. On camera, she got used to being called every name in the book, from homewrecking whore to a pick-me and bad friend. But off camera, there's always been a different side of Scheana, pieces of her that didn't make it into the final edit of tidy, forty-minute television episodes. In My good side , Scheana pulls back the layers of who she really is and shares all sides of her-the good, bad, and messy-bringing readers on a wild nostalgia trip through the early days of Vanderpump Rules, while recounting jaw-dropping stories from her Hollywood black book, including setting the record straight on her relationship with Eddie Cibrian. She reveals how her outlook on love has evolved and led her to a daughter she was told she may never have. From being bullied as a kid to being bullied by the Witches of WeHo, Scheana has seen it all, and together she and her fans can laugh, cry, and reminisce on all the drama, heartbreak, and celebrations over the years"-- Provided by publisher.

The Book I reviewed was “My Good Side: A memoir” and I gotta tell you, it’s an amazing read! It feels like you're on a call with a friend who experienced some crazy things in her life, there are so many plot twists and something new happening every chapter. If you like surprises I highly recommend giving this book a chance. Scheana is a strong woman. She stayed on her feet throughout everything she’s been through. I also love how she made a little section for photos inside the book, every person looked just as I imagined! I always thought reading was a smart-person hobby, never found it amusing. Like sitting down and reading words off paper? That was the most boring-est thing anyone could do! Reading this book really changed my perspective.I hope I can find more books that have Scheana's writing style.

We are legion : (we are Bob)

Author: Dennis E. Taylor
Year: 2017
ISBN: 9781680680584

Abstract: "Bob Johansson has just sold his software company and is looking forward to a life of leisure. There are places to go, books to read, and movies to watch. So it's a little unfair when he gets himself killed crossing the street. Bob wakes up a century later to find that corpsicles have been declared to be without rights, and he is now the property of the state. He has been uploaded into computer hardware and is slated to be the controlling AI in an interstellar probe looking for habitable planets. The stakes are high: no less than the first claim to entire worlds. If he declines the honor, he'll be switched off, and they'll try again with someone else. If he accepts, he becomes a prime target. There are at least three other countries trying to get their own probes launched first, and they play dirty. The safest place for Bob is in space, heading away from Earth at top speed. Or so he thinks. Because the universe is full of nasties, and trespassers make them mad -- very mad." -Amazon

His conscience is then launched on a rocket ship to space where he creates more versions of himself and has many epic adventures. He discovers life on new planets, battles rival probes, and eventually spreads to the far reaches of the universe. This book was a fun read but may be a little difficult for less advanced readers. The humor is dry but still funny. The author is also well versed in all the technicalities required to write a book about many complex theoretical ideas. We are Legion (We are Bob) is a must read for anyone who is a fan of Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, similar futuristic sci-fi books, or anyone who loves a good laugh.

Bob and his copies have been spreading out from the Earth for 40 years now, looking for habitable planets. But that's the only part of the plan that's still in one piece. A system-wide war has killed off 99.9% of the human race, nuclear winter is slowly making the Earth uninhabitable, a radical group wants to finish the job on the remnants of humanity, the Brazilian space probes are still out there, still trying to blow up the competition, and the Bobs have discovered a spacefaring species that sees all other life as food."--Publisher's description.

This book is a tough read and may be hard for learning or younger readers due to the in-depth scientific explanations. The humor in this novel is somehow dryer than the last and is sometimes not as funny as the author predicted. Neuromancer

Now a new employer has recruited him for a last-chance run against an unthinkably powerful artificial intelligence. Reviewed by Komrad B. 11th Grade

Neuromancer is a dark, gritty sci-fi novel that is not afraid to throw you into an unfamiliar world with little explanation. The book follows Case, a hacker who had his nervous system damaged and tampered with by some previous shady employers, and he is looking for a "cure" so that his nervous system can be repaired and so that he can re-enter cyberspace again and continue working. Case gets hired by a man named Armitage, and works together with a cyborg named Molly to free a trapped Artificial Intelligence named Wintermute, so that they and the AI can do a high-stakes hacking job. Case and Molly embark on various heists throughout the book, eventually coming to the home of the Tessier-Ashpools, the family that created Wintermute. Wintermute starts working against Case and the team, and merges with Neuromancer, a counterpart AI, to become powerful and unstoppable. Case, however, gets his cure and heals his nervous system in the end. This was a really unique book, but I found it could be pretty confusing at times, because Gibson's writing style often let the explanations for the environment slowly come in over the course of the book, rather than being immediately clear at the beginning. Neuromancer is a tough read, but for those who can read it and who enjoy gritty sci-fi, I'd certainly recommend it.
