Looking for news from a local perspective?
Access World News has access to full text articles from over 2,000 local newspapers including several Alaskan publications. Date ranges vary, but many titles have coverage going back to the 80's or 90's. You can search for topics, names and subjects to narrow down your search or look at articles from a specific date.
Articles in U.S. Major Dailies and Access World News are text only. Photos, advertisements, special features and inserts are not included.
Looking for something from before database coverage starts or want to see the pictures that were published with the article?
Loussac Library has microfilm of the New York Times from 1851-2023 and the Wall Street Journal from 1891-2023. Microfilm is a snapshot of the original layout of the paper including photos and advertisements, but is not searchable. You'll need to know an approximate date to find the article(s) you are looking for. Visit the third floor reference desk at Loussac to get started.
The Library of Congress Chronicling America website also has digital scans of historic newspapers from 1777-1963 including several Alaskan publications.
Looking for articles from the Anchorage Daily News?
The Anchorage Daily News Collection contains full text articles from 1985-present. This also includes the period when it was called the Alaska Dispatch News (2014-2017). These articles are text only. Photos, advertisements, special features and inserts are not included.
As of October 2018, scanned images of the Anchorage Daily News are available. These scans show the full paper as it was published including photos and advertisements.
You can search for topics, names and subjects to narrow down your search or look at articles from a specific date.

The Alaska Collection at the Loussac Library has a large collection of Alaska newspapers on microfilm including the Anchorage Times (1916-1992), Anchorage Daily News (1949-2018), Fairbanks News Miner (1908-1996), Juneau Empire (1980-2001), and many other historical newspapers going back to the early 1900's. Microfilm is a snapshot of the original layout of the paper including photos and advertisements, but is not searchable. You'll need to know an approximate date to find the article(s) you are looking for.
