1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Loussac Library, Alaska Event Center
Get ready for an exciting new format celebrating local literary talent! This year, instead of individual author visits, we're hosting a Local Author Showcase. This event is a fantastic opportunity for authors to present their work, connect with fellow writers, and engage directly with the public.
Local Author Invitation
Are you a local author interested in participating? Applications for the Local Author Showcase are officially open! Please click the link below to create and submit your brief application. There are no fees to participate.
Author Selection Process
Participation in the Local Author Showcase is by application only. While we'd love to include everyone, we may need to limit participation based on the number of applications received. Anchorage Public Library (APL) reserves the right to accept or refuse any applicant at its discretion.
Priority is given to authors who live within the Municipality of Anchorage and write primarily for adult audiences. If space allows, authors from other Alaskan communities or who write for youth audiences will be considered. All applicants must reside in Alaska at the time of application.
We also consider additional criteria such as publication quality, local interest, and artistic merit. Please note:
- Authors must be edited and published. Manuscripts will not be accepted.
- E-book authors who do not have a printed copy of their book for sale are not eligible.
- Promotional material will not be considered in the selection process and will be discarded.
- If your book has been professionally reviewed, please list that in the appropriate section of your application.
In the application, we ask for only three (3) of your book titles and descriptions. You don't need to have three books to be considered. If you have more, please limit your sample to three. You are welcome to sell additional books at the fair, but you will be limited to a single table.
Accepted authors will be notified by August 15, 2025.
Event Promotion
We'll be actively promoting the showcase through various channels, including:
- The library’s social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram)
- The Anchorage Public Library website
- In-house marketing materials (flyers, posters, signs, eDisplay)
- Traditional media sources (newspapers, local publications)
We strongly encourage authors to also promote the Local Author Showcase through your own networks and media outlets. Your help is crucial to making this program a success!
Showcase Criteria and Rules
- APL will provide each author with one (1) 2.5' x 5' table and two chairs. Please note that display space is limited to the table surface; we cannot accommodate banners, posters, or other wall/ceiling hangings.
- Authors must attend the event and be responsible for their own exhibits, including any money, cash boxes, products, tablecloths, or other desired items.
- APL is not responsible for collecting payments on behalf of authors. We cannot provide change, cash boxes, or credit card readers. If you choose to accept electronic payments, your unit must operate wirelessly, and its setup and configuration are your responsibility. APL provides publicly accessible Wi-Fi, but we cannot offer technical support.
- Authors are responsible for supplying their books for sale. Sales are limited to books only; no other merchandise can be sold.
- You must be willingly and legally able to sell your books at the event.
- Use of electrical outlets will not be allowed due to potential tripping hazards.
- APL is not responsible for items left unattended during the event.
- APL will not write reviews for your book.
- Chosen participants must provide the APL with a high-resolution headshot and an image of your book cover(s) within two weeks of notification. You agree to allow APL to use these images as free promotional materials for the event.
- Programs, events, and classes may be photographed and/or videotaped for library promotional purposes.
- APL will not reimburse authors for travel or expenses and will not pay authors for participation.
